‘Breaking’ News!

21 05 2012

Sorry for the brief replies for the next couple of months but I can no longer type! I slipped on a muddy banking on the way to work on Fri night and shattered my arm! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So doesn’t look like I’ll be ‘compleating’ this year after all! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Damn that osteoporosis! I knew it would get me one day! Gutted!

I’m off work for at least 6 weeks and have had to have my arm internally wired up!

Ouch, that’s majorly rubbish. Hope you recover soon. Was good to see you had managed some of the Cuillin without too much stress though. Off there myself in a few days – eek!

Eek indeed! I look forward to seeing what you got up to… might be best to give me a shout via PM when you post your trip reports as I’m not reading the forums until I get better as I can’t get comfortable for long enough at the computer! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

My Sgurr Mhic Choinnich report is due out around the end of the week – that wasn’t quite so stress-free! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Damn, that’s a pest and a hindrance to your hill days. I hope the bone heals well and quickly.

I wish it would START to mend but it doesn’t feel like it’s making much progress yet – it keeps swelling up to completely fill my pot – very worrying & uncomfortable! Don’t think the hot weather’s helping the swelling though – I’ve been trying to apply ice packs to the pot (as well as to things like the fingers & elbows sticking out of each end)

It seems to be going very slowly – I can’t get comfy in bed at all so I’m going to try the sofa tonight…

Certainly ‘breaking’ news; a piece of bad luck – just goes to show you’re safer on the Cuillin!
Hope you manage a speedy recovery & get out the hills soon.

Carol that’s a real bummer – you have my total sympathy. Hopefully you’ll be back in action quicker than it’s taking me with my ankle, ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I fell over and broke it in the snow and ice on the 5th February. They wanted to operate but I begged them for an alternative to that if at all possible, so in the end they didn’t but instead x-rayed it 3 times in the first 10 days to make sure the bones hadn’t moved. Luckily they didn’t!
So, I was in a cast with no weight bearing at all for 6 weeks, then they gave me an enormous plastic boot thing for another 6 weeks and told me to start learning how to walk again with that on. Then, I was allowed to start walking normally again and transferred to the hospital physio department – that was about 4 weeks ago now.
So I’ve just started work again after 16 weeks off! I’m walking a bit further each day, taking in fields and gentle slopes etc and desperate to get both fit again and get the ankle back to hill strength again….I’m sure an arm might be a bit quicker than all that?

Ouch! I had a bad break like that when I was a kid – sliding fracture of my rt. tibia – that was 6 weeks in full length pot with no putting my foot down & 5 more weeks in a half pot with a rocker so I know how you feel ๐Ÿ˜ฆ At least I can walk I suppose – although I ricked my leg on the side I fell so it’s a bit weak just now…

Scree slopes, precipitous drops, aretes, ice walls, etc. All of those turned you into the coward you are, and then you slip on some mud on the way home from the pub and expect us not to laugh!!!!

Hope you get better soon ๐Ÿ˜‰
