Hopefully – just not sure when. I’ve had my hip replacement done and it hurts like hell to sit at a computer for any time typing stuff so might be a while!
I had planned to do a week by week description of my progress but can’t face it right now. Maybe I’ll write useful stuff up into a few posts later when I can sit down! Luckily, walking around and pottering are fine…
Don’t go away. Plenty of great older posts to read π
Hope you make a very speedy recovery.

Thanks John – I suppose I’m probably doing better than many of his older patients but it doesn’t seem fast enough just the same!

Thanks Mark. I’m thinking of giving up reading the various hillwalking forums as it’s just sooo frustrating right now!

Well there are slow improvements – I can sleep better now I’ve experimented with positions and timing of maximum pain-killing. But sitting is horrid and I think it will be for a long, long time!

Great to hear you’ve had it done and that you are still mobile, standing up at least. Best wishes for an active future and more hillwalking/outdoor adventures to come. All the best for your recovery.

Gawd yes… You are not filling me with hope when my doc says two replacements may be on the cards… π¦
I shall wait. As long as I can!

I’m pretty sure that I’ll have to have my other hip done in another couple of years. Compensating for the bad one wears the good joints out – everything downstream on the bad leg and the opposite hip. I’ve seen so many people having the other done a couple of years later π¦
The only good thing I can say that is, I’m about one day after 2 weeks now and quite a bit better. I can even sit for a while and sleeping is definitely better – only one huge lot of painkillers last night on going to bed and nothing else during the night!

Sounds like you are making progress! π
I can wait a while yet, I believe. I have too much walking I want to do before being tied by the heels…or the hips … for a while.

I think it’s wise to wait

Well I am planning on being around a bit longer than the replacements last…so I shall hold out a bit longer. Anyway, they might change their minds yet. They keep doing that… straight answers would be nice.

Physio kept me going for a good couple of years – apparently I wasn’t using my glutes enough (many people don’t). Worth having a word with a physio about strengthening the surrounding muscles if you haven’t already…

Hope you get better soon and are back on the mountains again.
I know that I, too, will need a new hip in a couple of years time, so would be interested in how you recover. Presumably you will be getting lots of physio?
All the best xx

The physios have rung me… but they haven’t organised anything yet. I’m still doing the exercises I was given in the hospital though and trying to walk a bit further each day. I’m also having a few small walks just to keep moving. Pottering is getting much easier round the house. I’m hoping to write up at least some of it soon but it’s the sitting thing…

Oh dear, poor you. Would it be worth investing in one of those portable table-top standing desk thingies? My osteopath recommended I get one. Not that I did, as I find I can’t think if I am standing up. But I feel your pain about the sitting down. I know I am still a long way off, but even now being still and sitting is worse than moving (and, not that you want to hear this, but perversely pootling up hills seems to make it better, not worse ).
Stay strong and patient!

I’ve been standing to watch my DVDs in the evenings! I sit for a while and then I’m in too much pain to carry on so just stand and sway about from leg to leg and try to get them moving again.
