Due to the sheer awfulness of WordPress’s new ‘block editor’, I’m having to do a completely test post. These are photos which surfaced later than some of the walks I’ve already posted and I simply dare not edit the existing posts in case I end up breaking them so I’m putting them in a post of their own!
First off: these are of Bannerdale Crag’s East Ridge – a post I put out back in June. I was on Souther Fell on another walk and took these which illustrate its apparent fierceness perfectly I think…
Then, back in July, I put out a post called ‘Grasmoor via Gasgale Gill & Dove Crags Arete’ (I daren’t try to put the link to the post in here! 😮 ) These show the arete from across the valley on Whiteside and make it look much steeper than it looks in the post photos – it is very steep so the dramatic nature of these photos is nearer to the real thing I think!
The next photo shows the arete more or less in its entirety…
This was left over from my latest post which I also dare not edit and is looking down Frozen Fell Gill to my subsequent walk over the fells in the photo and it has a really nice light I think…
The new editor is a complete pain in the proverbial. It has taken me a while to get a wafer thin grip on it. Not a fan.

It’s putting me off posting. My Merry Christmas post should have taken me 2 minutes and it took me half an hour!

I hate the new editor!! Can’t get it to work on my phone or iPad so have to use the pc.. Not being able to post lots of photos at once is a particular pain!

I can’t imagine trying to type a post on a phone – can you connect a keyboard to it or something? I wouldn’t be able to see what I was doing anyway on a phone – too small!

My solution to the ‘Block Editor’ problem works for me. Create a new post in the new editor, just one word will do – I use my numbering system, so I’ve just created a blog called #283. When you’ve done that, save it and close it. The open up ‘All Posts’ and your draft will be there – click on it, and it gives the option of ‘Classic Editor’. Bish bash bosh 🙂
Oh, and nice pics by the way – at least by making a new post around them, we get to see them.

Well my plan was to then add them into the posts you’ve already read but I’m not sure I want to tinker with them now. They should really go in those posts though…
Thanks for the tip – I’ll try that next time…

Very fine photos. It looks like you were in a plane for a couple of them. Take care.

Thanks – I’m putting that last one with the good light in my this year’s calendar – very pleased with that one! 🙂

Isn’t it completely awful?! I just had to swear at the smug online chat ‘help’. It has ruined my blogging, I’ve hardly posted anything for a year as it’s just no longer enjoyable. Today I finally tried a short, simple post (got to plug my book somehow!) and really struggled. And yes editing old posts seems to be impossible, they just fall apart. Crazy. Maddening.

I’ve been putting off writing a post for ages since they changed it and, last night, when I was struggling to find out how on earth to put photos in a post, I was seriously considering giving up my blog altogether! 😦

Me too, exactly the same, I meant to give up but hadn’t posted for so long I forgot all about it and they pinched another year’s flipping subscription. So now with that and having a book to promote I thought I’d try and tough it out, but it’s just awful. You can no longer put in special characters (en/em dash or anything with an accent). Captions on photos don’t seem to work and trying to edit an old post is a disaster. Why would they just sabotage so many people’s enjoyable hobby?

I have to say I don’t want to give up though – partly because I re-read my own posts and it cheers me up to see what I’ve been up to in the past and brings back good memories. Half of the reason I have this blog is as a memoir for myself to read as I get older!
No idea why they wanted to make it so hard to post though when it used to be intuitive – it was simplicity itself before and really quick to do.

I know what you mean about the new block editor, which I can only describe as user hostile! Still, at least it’s allowed me to see some of your superb photography again, so that’s one positive. I never tire of seeing your landscapes and wishing I was there. That last one is really gorgeous, and the light is pretty wonderful, I agree. I hope you get your head around the new editor. I’m still trying! 🙂

‘User hostile’ – I like that – I’m going to adopt it!

I’ve been saying that for years – probably because I’m a bit of a technophobe! 😉

I prefer the old version.

Everyone I’ve read commenting on the change so far has been totally against the new editor. It’s just unfathomable!

Some fine mountains. I remember looking across at that ridge. I’ve been above it as well but didn’t descend it. I wish they wouldn’t change things. I have a flash player I’m perfectly happy with but as of December ending its being stopped completely. A right bugger as I bet the replacement is worse….it usually is. Also with new blogger I have to upload one single photo at a time. You could stick them all up as a full set then slide them in with the old version. Far less hassle.

I tend not to update any of my media players and devices for that reason – in case they stop working. I really rely on my on-computer music when I’m having to deal with a lot of tedious e-mails or if I’m feeling depressed!
