Bothying in the Rough Bounds of Knoydart (Carn Mor)

13 11 2011

Mon 31 Oct – Wed 2 Nov 2011

After meeting up with my friend Janet for a weekend at Glencoe Youth Hostel for the Clachaig Beer Festival, Alan (my Welsh friend and bothy expert) and I drove down to Strathan where we planned to do some bothying in the wild country at the start of Knoydart… Read the rest of this entry »

A Winter Trip to the Famous Tarf Hotel

29 08 2011

Nov 2009

Hardly took any photos for this as I was mostly too frozen to think (on the second day at least)…

This was my first ever winter bothy trip – it was also my first trip meeting up with the folks off the walking forum I used to frequent.  Although I was expecting it to be an uncomfortable and cold weekend, the thing which normally motivates me was there in abundance – challenge! Fisherfield – Shenaval Trip, Part 2

4 08 2011

Walked 17 May 2010

The next morning at Shenaval the weather was looking much better. Everyone was leaving so there was much packing. I found that, although I’d used a bit of my food up, my pack seemed heavier and I had trouble getting everything back in! I eventually managed and had eaten my brekkie and was about to set off for Beinn a’ Chlaidheimh which I really, really didn’t want to do – I’d taken to calling it ‘The Thing’… Read the rest of this entry »

Fisherfield – Shenaval Trip, Part 1

4 08 2011

Walked 16 May 2010

All photos taken by my companion Mike as I left my camera in the bothy!

I had originally planned to go to Shenaval Bothy over the weekend at the start of my rota’d week off from work. However, it got to the day before I was due to set off and it had turned out no-one on my original list of folks could make it so I was on my own. At the last minute Monty came to my rescue and said he could probably make it for the end of the weekend – phew! Read the rest of this entry »

Arrochar Cave Trip Plus Some Soggy Munroing

27 07 2011

5 October 2010

The Arrochar Cave meet was the end of a frenetic two weeks for me – and what a fantastic end it was – it really saved my fortnight! I’d been wanting to spend a night in the historic caves since I’d read about them in various Scottish Mountaineering/Bothying books. They really are a part of Scotland’s early mountaineering history as the famous ‘Creag Dhu’ climbing club used to regularly sleep in them back in the 1940s (probably up to the present time) when spending climbing weekends away from Glasgow. Midsummer Bivvy on Snowdon Summit

25 07 2011

This post is an experiment. It’s a rescued report from my ex-forum and was stored on my computer in Word. I saw that I could attach word documents ‘as is’ so am putting this one out like that so I can get feedback on what people think about this method of putting out the rest of my archival reports from that forum so, comments please, especially from my regulars off said forum. I know the spacing isn’t great for the photos and will alter that if I do any more and generally tidy them up. It’s the method I’m wanting feedback on thanks 🙂
