Gear Review – Berghaus Freeflow 25+5L Rucsac

25 06 2013

A few weeks ago, I received a request on my blog to do a gear review. I’ve never done one before and have to admit to not having read many either so here goes and hope it’s informative and helpful… Read the rest of this entry »

Appleby Horse Fair

14 06 2013

Having got the idea to attend the Gypsy horsefair at Appleby from my fellow blogger Stravaiger John who attends most years, I decided to attend myself this year. I am a fan of both Romany Gypsies and horses so it was a no-brainer really. My photos are all taken on my digi-camera (on which I can’t see what I’m doing so just have to wait until I load them up) and there were huge crowds there so most photos are pretty compromised in their composition but, anyway, here they are… Read the rest of this entry »

A Quick Funny!

7 04 2013

A few years back, when my parents were still Youth Hostelling, they stayed at Arnside Hostel. My Mum was despatched off to a women’s dormitory and the warden gave my Dad instructions to his dormitory. My Dad went up to the floor he’d said but noticed that all the rooms seemed to be full of women. Coming from an age where ladies and gentlemen didn’t mix overnight unless they were married (unlike bunkhouses nowadays where you can be sharing a room with a stranger of either sex), he hurriedly averted his eyes and rushed back downstairs.

“They’re all women up there!” he exclaimed to the warden in a shocked and horrified voice.

The warden turned to his mate and said,

“I wonder how old you have to be to get like that?”

A quick shot of my Dad in his younger, male-model days! 😉

What NOT to do in the Mountains!

20 12 2012

A classic 12 minute video of how NOT to start out winter mountaineering!

How not to ascend Buachaille Etive Mor, Glencoe

The guy who filmed it was pretty new to hill-walking and it was his first winter hill – the others hadn’t been up a hill before! 😮

Inspiring Blog Award – Coming to a Blog Near You Today!

17 11 2012

First of all, I must thank the lady at:

pregoandtheloon

for nominating my blog for an ‘Inspiring Blog Award’!

I’m glad I’m inspiring someone! 🙂 Made my day when I read she’d nominated me as one of her 7 most inspiring blogs. Her blog is pretty inspiring, being that of a woman who’s removed herself from domestic violence and is now writing about her experiences to help others – so make sure you have a read…

Now, the rules of the game mean I now have to nominate 7 other blogs for the award. To be honest, I don’t read all that many bloggers on a regular basis at the moment as I think I spend far too much time online – the ones I read also tend to be about going up mountains. But, I’ve tried to include a couple of other subjects, i.e. animal welfare/campaigning (which is very dear to my heart) and photography (which I’d like to be better at).

I also have to list 7 little-known (by some) facts about myself – I’ve had a little think and here goes: Read the rest of this entry »

Stop Thief! A Cautionary Tale…

1 11 2012

(photo courtesy of Serialnumberregistry.ca – in case I’m accused of stealing it!)

I nearly got a new record tonight – however, not a musical record this time – apparently a criminal record! 😮 How did this happen to an honest mountain coward? Read on to find out… Read the rest of this entry »

A Big Thanks to all Who Contributed :-)

6 10 2012

A huge thankyou to all who contributed to my sponsored Cuillin Challenge (see my ‘Really Hate to Have to do This’ post). The monies are now almost in and I’ve raised a grand total of £484 – naturally, I’ve made it up to £500.

London 2012 – Irritating for Some

25 08 2012

Of course, living in England, it has been impossible to escape the Olympics held, as they were this summer, in London. I watched very little of them myself, apart from catching a couple of things on TV whilst up at my parents and watching all the dressage on i-Player. Part of the reason for this was that it was making me very bitter about being injured, seeing all those fit and active sports-people doing what I would normally be doing but instead being almost glued to my sofa and unable to even go out for a walk 😦

Anyone else been in a similar situation this summer? Read the rest of this entry »

Really Hate to Have to Do This…

25 04 2012

… the challenge that is – not putting out this request 🙂

Hi,
As you will have gathered from reading my blog, I’m at present ‘doing the Munros’, i.e. walking all the (nominated) mountains over 3000 feet in Scotland – there’s 283 of them and I have 35 left to do. Of the 35 I have left, 10 of them are on the Cuillin Ridge on Skye and are fearsome for mountain cowards. I’ll attach a photo to show you what I mean.

That’s 2 of ’em! Read the rest of this entry »
